The Beginning: Social Media Coordinator at UNH

As I begin this exciting new position as Social Media Coordinator at The University of New Hampshire, I quickly look back at the Social Media efforts I brought to UNH IT, but due to roadblocks, my efforts were severely limited...

Pipeline. A student-focused blog regarding IT life with many posts written from the perspective of a college student intern. Articles focused on how to register computers on the UNH network, how to use Blackboard, How to scan computers for viruses, Where the Computing Clusters are located, steps to downloading useful software, and many other tips and tricks along the way.

Twitter and Facebook. Both of these social media platforms would have been great tools, however due to department restrictions these accounts never got off the ground and were not promoted or used effectively.

Thankfully, I was able to grow my skills outside of the office by joining the Social Media Club NH back in 2010, becoming it's president by early 2011 and hosting monthly meetings around the state. My SEO and Social Media skills grew, my network expanded, and I signed up for many free & paid seminars to better my skills and adapt to what is now almost universally known as standard practices.

And just after my first day on the job, students at The New Hampshire newspaper had this to say about my hiring: http://www.tnhonline.com/2.1559/unh-grad-boucher-named-university-s-first-social-media-coordinator-1.2698782#.UKqRd4XcCmd
